GSM-gateway with Asterisk v11 on-board

 

Thanks to the updated software module Polygator PGGSM (providing integration of radio-channels to Asterisk) the Asterisk v11 now can be installed directly on the GSM-gateway.


The integration module Polygator PGGSM provides GSM-gateway channels control via dial-plan and console of Asterisk, as well as command line of OS Linux.


All GSM-gateways Polygator are able to run Asterisk on-board, making it possible to use the gateway as standalone IP-PBX "all-in-one" as well as GSM-Gateway at the same time. Depending on the gateway software module type the highest on-board Asterisk version may vary. Currently, all gateways managed by “PGGSM” software support installation of Asterisk v11. All GSM-gateways managed by “Polygator GUI” software are able to run Asterisk up to v1.6.2.2 on-board.


In any case it is enough to run just one GSM-gateway box Polygator with Asterisk on-board to create the telephony server.

Updated SMS-module of the GSM-gateway

Updated version of the SMS-module allows routing SMS by a prefix of recipient number. Routing is possible to channel or group of channels associated with the prefix (one or several).


For example, if you assign prefixes (063) and (093) to a group of channels, it will result in sending all SMS with (063) and (093) prefixes via this channel group. Load balancing between channels done automatically – channels engaged continuously, from first to last and again from first. In addition, you can set daily SMS-sending limits each channel and connect to devices to SIM-card mass storage devices (SIM-server and SIM-bank).

The sample working device for power lines monitoring is presented on the exhibition “elcom” (April 21-24, 2015, Kyiv, Ukraine). The device is installed on improved model of power line.

 

The device is moving along power lines and performs photo-shooting and video-recording. Collected data transferred for processing to analytical center. Data transfer is performed either by wireless and mobile networks, either by storing recordings internally.

Gateway reports about SMS or Call in JSON format

One of gateway G8 and G20 features is the ability to execute tasks on certain events (incoming call or SMS). For example, on getting SMS the gateway can transfer to external server SMS sender number, SMS recipient number, message body, SMS-center time, etc.

 

They way how server contacted is defined in configuration files of the gateway. It can be HTTP-request by method GET, POST or transferring data in JSON-format by method POST. Absolute flexibility of gateway setup allows to perform any actions on events and transfer data in almost any format.

 

This feature enables to use gateway for testing Mobile operator services, to obtain information about the event very fast, etc.

Dynamic IP-address support

GSM-gateways Elgato are updated with feature of automatic obtaining IP-address via DHCP. It allows to use devices easily in networks with dynamic IP-address assignment via DHCP. In case the Ethernet-connection became unavailable and comes back - obtaining of IP-address also re-initiated and automatic device reconfiguration is performed.


The update is available for all devices of the G8 and G20 series.

Store SIM-card’s own number

Many SIM-cards do not contain in internal memory its own number. This creates troubles identifying card with АТ-command AT+CNUM as it return an empty string. New feature of SIM-bank can solve this. It makes possible to fill the empty space and store number inside the SIM-card as it expected to be.


A command can be sent from Linux console (directly on the device or via SSH). As parameters, it expects Elgato SIM-bank’s SIM-holder number and phone number. Using simple sh-script (bash-script) it can be automated for hundreds of SIM-cards.


It is recommended to use SIM-cards with its number stored internally and returned correctly for SIM-server Elgato operation.

 

Disabling PIN-code request

The SIM-bank Elgato device has own software capable of performing some operations with SIM-cards from Linux-console (as the SIM-bank is Linux-based device).


One of new SIM-bank features is PIN-code disabling command. It is recommended to disable PIN-code request for preparing SIM-cards for the SIM-server. Command applied to all SIM-cards currently in the SIM-bank at once.


The command executed on Linux-console (directly on the device or via SSH) with PIN-code as parameter. PIN-code should be correct for all SIM-cards currently in the SIM-bank. After this all SIM-cards will have a PIN-code request disabled.


Why you may need it?


Most of SIM-cards ask PIN when inserted in a mobile device or commutated (in the SIM-server). One of standard SIM-server Elgato features is PIN-code auto-input. But in case you made mistake when adding a group of SIM-cards (with same PIN) to SIM-server Elgato you risk to have some or all cards blocked due to incorrect PIN. SIM-cards will engage internal protection and start asking PUK-code which is more complex problem to solve as all cards have unique PUK.

GSM-gateways Elgato are universal telephony devices. They can be used not only for converting GSM to VoIP but also for mini-PBX tasks.

 

For example, IP-PBX Asterisk can be installed on gateway and set up for dozens concurrent calls. Following video shows what happens to gateway (24 channel model) when making 24 concurrent calls from SIP to GSM.

Compact SMS-gateway All-In-One

 

SMS-gateways Elgato – are universal "boxed" solutions for SMS-server implementation. By “universal” we mean these gateways are Linux-computers open for custom tuning, adding and modifying scripts, libraries, etc.

 

Default set of features includes support for SMS-protocols and technologies as follows:
1. SMPP - with multi-threading support
2. Email-SMS, SMS-Email - Email-address(es) set up individually for each SIM-card (GSM-channel)
3. HTTP - by processing HTTP-requests and parameters (POST, GET) via on-board scripts
4. Customs open SMS-protocol (interaction with the device via the Telnet commands on port 9005)

 

Interesting features:
5. Events - when some Event happens (incoming SMS or Call) device will trigger SH-script (Shell-script, Bash-script) and send to it all Event-parameters. The script can be customized to report Events to external servers, etc. Useful for QoS control.

True digital sound in GSM-cards for Asterisk

New GSM-cards for Asterisk (with support for WCDMA/UMTS) are now capable of digital sound processing. This improvement provides higher quality of speech, clear sound with no interferences or noises. Technically, it means the sound from radio-module sent to the system already in digital form i.e. the sound already digitized by the module itself.

 

It is still possible to switch to analogue sound mode by sending special AT-command to each radio-module from Asterisk console. Switching to digital sound currently supported only by cards with the support of WCDMA/UMTS, but they still can be used in regular GSM-networks (without UMTS).

GSM-combiner (splitter) allows to reduce the number of GSM-gateway antennas and to provide GSM-signal in areas with weak mobile network coverage. When GSM-gateway placed in server room or in basement it often results in low GSM-signal levels. GSM-combiner with the feeder is the only simple way to provide the device with GSM-signal in such areas. For example, by using combiner and external antenna with feeder of 10-20 meters paced on the roof or external wall of the building you have more chances to supply high signal levels to the GSM-device.


GSM-combiners are available in 8-channel and 32-channel designs. 32-channel model has 19"-rack compatible housing. The splitter is equipped with SMA-connectors and supplied with patch-cords, feeder 10 m and YAGI-antenna. Feeder length can be adjusted individually on order.
